Honoured with the TRA VISIONS 2026 Senior Researcher Award in the Waterborne category
Professor Maria Boile, Professor and Director of QuALS at the University of Piraeus, Coordinator of the Waterborne Technology Platform, and Corresponding Member of Komvos, was honoured with the TRA VISIONS 2026 Senior Researcher Award in the Waterborne category.
The TRA VISIONS Senior Researcher Awards recognise established researchers for scientific excellence and significant contributions to European research and innovation projects in the field of transport. The Waterborne category covers critical areas for the future of maritime transport, including energy efficiency, electrification, digitalisation, ports and infrastructure, sustainable alternative fuels, safe and secure waterborne transport, and green shipping corridors.
This distinction recognises a long research trajectory with international presence and a substantive contribution to shaping the technological and strategic priorities of European shipping and maritime transport.
In her personal statement, Professor Boile noted that this recognition reflects a journey shaped through her work with the University of Piraeus, the Hellenic Institute of Transport / CERTH, Rutgers CAIT – Center for Advanced Infrastructure and Transportation, and WaterborneTP, but above all through the people who have accompanied her in her research and personal journey.
Professor Boile’s award is of particular significance for Greece, as it highlights the contribution of Greek scientists in fields directly connected with shipping, ports, the green transition, and the European strategy for sustainable maritime transport.
