Antonios Regkakos studied Classical Philology at the University of Freiburg. He taught at the Universities of Vienna (1994-1995) and Freiburg (1991-1997).

In 1997, he was appointed Professor of Ancient Greek Philology at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, and in 2011, he became a regular member of the Academy of Athens (Chair of Ancient Greek Philology).

In 2015, he was elected Honorary Professor at the University of the Peloponnese, and in 2016, he became a Corresponding Member of the Heidelberg Academy (Class of Philosophical-Historical Sciences). His research interests include Homer, historiography, and Hellenistic poetry.

He was President of the Academy of Athens.
