George Nounesis is the Director and Chairman of the Board of the National Centre for Scientific Research “Demokritos”. Dr. Nounesis studied Physics at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He earned his Ph.D. from the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota. He completed a three-year postdoctoral training at the Department of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Executive Education Program on “Innovation for Economic Development” at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He is currently the Director of the Laboratory of Biomolecular Physics at “Demokritos”. Before returning to Greece, he held research positions at the MIT Center for Materials Science and Engineering and the Francis Bitter National Magnet Laboratory. He has also taught as a visiting professor at the Centre de Recherche Paul Pascal of the CNRS and the Department of Chemistry at the University of Bordeaux I.
