Perikles Mitkas, Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTh), has been the President of the National Authority for Higher Education (NAHE) since February 2020. NAHE coordinates the evaluation and certification of study programs in Greek universities and advises the Ministry of Education on national strategy issues for Higher Education.

Mr. Mitkas has held various positions, including Rector of AUTh (2014-19), President of the Network of Universities of the Black Sea Countries (2018-21), and President of the Union of Balkan Universities (2018-19). From 1990 to 2000, he taught at Colorado State University in the USA, where he founded and directed the Optical Computing Laboratory and conducted research at the Optoelectronics Systems Research Center.

His research interests include databases, machine learning, and the development of intelligent systems for environmental and biological applications.

He has coordinated numerous competitive research projects in Greece and the USA.
