Costis Maglaras is the Dean and Professor of Business at Columbia Business School.

He holds a degree in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London and both an MS and PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. Prior to joining the faculty in 1998, Kostis Maglaras was a researcher at the Canon Research Center America in Palo Alto, working on image processing and machine vision. An expert in business research, data analytics, and quantitative finance, Maglaras served as Chair of the Department of Decision, Risk, and Operations.

He is the coordinator of the risk management course and a member of the Executive Committee of the Data Science Institute at Columbia University. He has received both the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence and the Dean’s Award for Teaching Innovation. His research focuses on stochastic modeling and data science, with an emphasis on stochastic networks, financial engineering, and quantitative pricing and revenue management. He has supervised 20 doctoral students, many of whom hold leading positions in academia and industry.

He has received numerous research awards and has served as a subject editor for several of the top journals in his field. He is a member of INFOMRS and the Association for Foreign Policy. He is a co-founder of Mismi Inc., a financial technology company that introduced quantitative trading algorithms and transaction analysis tools to the stock market.
