George Velmahos is the Chief of Trauma, Emergency Surgery, and Crisis Surgery at the Massachusetts General Hospital. He is the leader of the Trauma Program at the Center for Integration of Innovative Medical Technologies (CIMIT) and the founder of the Early Trauma Research Center at Massachusetts General Hospital.

He is also an Honorary Professor of Surgery at the University of Witwatersrand (Johannesburg, South Africa), Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Thessaloniki, Greece), and the University of Thessaly (Larissa, Greece). Additionally, he is the Director of the Hernia Center at Massachusetts General Hospital.
