Komvos’ Initiatives

The main goal of the organization is to act as a catalyst for the formation of specialized networks composed of prominent members of the Greek community and their successful connection through properly designed ‘nodes.’ Thus, through interaction and mutual fusion, the optimization of expected synergies is ensured.

Development of the Initiative Program

The organization shapes its initiative program based on the mobilization of its members. Currently, the first three initiatives of Komvos (Node) are underway, and three new ones have been launched.

Health-Biotechnology-Economy Synergy Structures

This initiative began under the leadership of the Secretary-General of the Board of Directors, Professor Konstantinos Drosatos, and Board Member Dr. Nikos Kyrpides. It is being implemented in collaboration with the ARISTEiA Institute of the United States.

Given the presence of distinguished Greek scientists in the broader field of Health and Biotechnology, there is potential for Greece to become a pioneering center in sectors that have experienced rapid growth in recent years, such as health biotechnology.

As part of this initiative, two workshops have already been organized in collaboration with the BIO³ conference, sponsored by the pharmaceutical company DEMO ABEE.

Empowering Households in Their Financial Decisions (ENNOIA)

This initiative was launched under the supervision of Professor Michael Haliassos, who also coordinates it.

Household financial decisions require specialized knowledge and information related to new technologies, as well as modern financial products and services, to be effectively utilized. This empowerment goes beyond conventional financial education and includes, among other things, the design of new financial and technological products, the formulation and implementation of policy measures, etc.

This initiative will connect researchers, technology companies, financial institutions, and policymakers to assist households in making rational financial decisions and promoting their economic well-being.

The first seminar on this topic has already been organized, sponsored by Accenture. Recently, the National Bank of Greece has also embraced this initiative.

Diaspora

The third major initiative of the Hub is the utilization of the diaspora. In contrast to organizations that focus on repatriating diasporans to strengthen the domestic labor market and research – undoubtedly an important need – the goal of the Hub is to harness the potential of the Hellenism, wherever they may be.

Shipping and ESG

The discussion regarding Shipping and ESG has been initiated. Global shipping is facing a series of challenges. These challenges relate to the implementation of the ESG framework and – most importantly – the need for decarbonization. Addressing these challenges requires hundreds of billions in investments and innovative ideas. The Hub has envisioned an initiative aimed at accelerating maritime innovation in Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean, using ESG, advancements in artificial intelligence, technology, and governance as a driving force.

Space Science and Industry

Komvos opens a discussion on space science and industry in Greece. Does the country have a strategy for space? And if the answer is yes, what is needed to succeed? Also, what is the significance and value of the country’s presence in the field of established space programs?

In general, the goal is, during the conference, to communicate Greece’s position in the scientific and industrial space world, whether from the perspective of human resources or from scientific research and development, as well as its contribution to the global scene.

Tourism and Sustainability

Greece, one of the leading tourist destinations worldwide, faces the complex challenge of the 21st century: how to balance the growing tourist demand and the protection of its natural and cultural resources. From idyllic islands to mountainous traditional settlements, the consequences of uncontrolled tourism development are now visible. This initiative began in November 2024 under the leadership of Elizabeth Filippouli, social entrepreneur and Founding Member of Komvos and has brought together a experts and decision makers in the fields of Tourism, Hospitality and Sustainability in Greece.
