Maria Demertzis is Deputy Director at the European University and formerly at Bruegel. She has worked in the European Commission and in the Research Department of the Central Bank of the Netherlands. She has also held academic positions at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in the USA and at the University of Strathclyde in the United Kingdom, where she earned a PhD in Economics. She has numerous publications in international academic journals and regularly contributes to policy discussions at both the European Commission and the Central Bank of the Netherlands.

She frequently publishes in the international press, such as the Financial Times, and writes regularly for three European newspapers.
