Komvos-Node is an initiative of distinguished members of Hellenism aimed at supporting activities of national importance, developmental, and geostrategic interest.
The choice of the term “Komvos” reflects the intention to combine two central concepts: the first relates to the modern notion of networks, and the second to the timeless concept of seamanship, which is identified with the “DNA” of Hellenism. In computing, a “Komvos (Node)” is a basic unit connected to another unit via a link. In Ancient Greek, or “Komvos” in modern Greek, refers to the point where two parts of the same or two different ropes intersect, resulting in support, security, and strengthening.
The Timing of the Initiative
The escalation of challenges facing Greece, the unpredictable and dangerous developments in the European continent and beyond, and the 200th anniversary of the 1821 Revolution led to the decision to establish a formal organization during this particular period.
Today’s challenges for Greece can be summarized as follows:
- Geopolitical instability in the arc extending from Tunisia to the Caspian,
- Revisionist tendencies in our neighborhood,
- International recession and energy crisis due to recent geopolitical developments,
- Climate change,
- The pandemic,
- The rise of China’s new international role,
- The demographic crisis,
- Immigration,
- The need for a radical change in the developmental model.
Our Weapons to face these Challenges
The weapons available to Hellenism to address these challenges are:
- A culture with international influence and recognition,
- Shipping with a global leadership presence,
- The diaspora with dynamic representation in all continents and in all sectors of science and business,
- Human resources within the country,
- Geopolitical role as a key energy and transport node.
The Founding Team
- 135 Greek scientists, academics, entrepreneurs, bank presidents, and top executives from organizations worldwide comprise the initiative team for the establishment of Komvos-Node.
- 108 of them became the founding members of the organization, while the majority of the rest participate as corresponding members.
The Organization
Komvos-Node is a non-profit civil company based in Athens, governed by an eleven-member Board of Directors with three alternate members.
Activities
- Development of innovative proposals for specific projects in strategic sectors such as shipping, culture, research and education, health (biological and mental), biotechnology, national security, elderly care, and the environment.
- A series of practical initiatives, such as creating a database of distinguished Greeks abroad, creating an electronic communication platform for systematic updates and exchanging opinions, and organizing an annual international Forum similar to Davos.
- Building a framework to create a permanent, timeless vehicle for raising awareness and mobilizing national forces through new creations and collaboration with existing networks of Greeks in Greece and worldwide.
