Nikandros Bouras is Emeritus Professor of Psychiatry at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London. He was Clinical Director and Professor at Guy’s Hospital, South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. As a psychiatrist, he is concerned with improving the treatment and living conditions of mentally ill people, especially those suffering from the most severe and neglected forms of the disease. In addition to his clinical work, his research interests focus on documenting the effectiveness of various models of mental health service provision. Several of his articles and books have been translated into different languages. He was founding member and Programme Director of Maudsley International, a global mental health advocacy group, and was also the head of the Daedalus Trust research team, which investigates the behaviour of individuals in leadership positions who are at risk of developing Hubris Syndrome. He was the initiator and one of the founding members of the World Hellenic Biomedical Association, as well as its first President, who for years has promoted the strengthening of relations between Greek doctors and bio-scientists of the diaspora. He was also a founding member of the Greek Cultural Center of London, while he was active in the original Greek-British Committee for the return of the Parthenon sculptures. He was an active member of the initiative committee for the creation of the Komvos. In his autobiographical trilogy, in his first book he refers to his family and childhood in Patras, in the second book “Greeks in London” he records, evaluates and analyses the social, cultural and scientific activities of the Greek community of London. Finally, in the third book entitled “Reflections of the Challenges of Psychiatry in the UK and Beyond” he refers to his scientific and professional pursuits. All books received very positive reviews that were published in reputable journals.
