Paraskevas Nikiforos Diamantouros is a full member of the Academy of Athens and Emeritus Professor of Comparative Political Science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, University of Athens.

He was the first National Ombudsman of Greece from 1998 to 2003 and served as the European Union Ombudsman from April 2003 to October 2013. He is an expert in state building, nation-building, democratization, the relationship between culture and politics, as well as the politics and history of Greece and Southern Europe. He has served as Director of Development at the Athens College, Program Director for Western Europe and the Near and Middle East at the Social Science Research Council in New York, President of the National Centre for Social Research, Visiting Professor at the Juan March Centre for Advanced Studies in the Social Sciences in Madrid, Spain, among others.

He has been honored with, among other distinctions, the Grand Cross of the Phoenix, the Golden Cross of Merit in Poland (2010), and the title of Knight of the Legion of Honour in France.
