Dr. Kostas Karpouzis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication, Media and Culture at Panteion University. His research focuses on algorithms that make computational systems more adaptive to the ways humans interact with them, while also exploring the ethical and social values embedded in—and affected by—Artificial Intelligence systems.

Since 1998, he has participated in more than twenty Research and Development projects. Notable examples include the Siren project (voted Best Learning Game in Europe in 2013 by the Games and Learning Alliance), the H2020 iRead project, which produced Navigo, winner of the GALA Serious Games Competition in 2018, and the Horizon Europe Road-STEAMer project, which designs the European roadmap and proposes policies for teaching STEAM subjects in schools and universities.

He is a member of the National Committee for Bioethics and Technoethics and serves as President of the Hellenic Association of Informatics and Communications Engineers. He has delivered three talks at TEDx events, while his TED-Ed video titled “Can machines read your emotions?” has been viewed more than 670,000 times and translated into 26 languages.
