Born and based in Athens, Greece, he also holds Canadian citizenship and US Residency.
An athlete of distinction in his youth, he attended Greece’s elite prep school, holds a BSc from UMass-Amherst and an MBA from Michigan State U. He was a lecturer at McGill University.
THE JOURNEY
After university, he worked in Montreal for 4.5 years for PKF and KPMG management consultancies in the Hospitality Industry, leading dozens of feasibility studies.
Returning to Greece in ‘78, he focused on Sports Tourism with the launch of the Athens Marathon as Owner/Race Director. His agency, Mondial, reached the top tier of national travel and tourism providers.
He introduced Athlete and Sports Management to the country. He later expanded to media ventures in Greece, Bulgaria and Romania, becoming a leading provider of Sports & Entertainment content from UEFA, FIFA, NBA, ESPN, Paramount, Columbia, Universal, BBC, MTV etc. A JV with BBDO bartered content for TV advertising time.
Business ventures in sports (’78-’00) include the IAAF Golden Marathon, Athletics Meets, plus global sports championships held in Greece. A major stakeholder in the Basketball Euroleague, Mondial managed the broadcasting and advertising rights of clubs from Israel, Russia, France, Yugoslavia, Germany and Greece.
Involved with the Olympic Movement since the ‘76 Montreal Games, he had various engagements that took him to 8 Olympics since.
In the 2004 Athens Games, he held a key role in the TV production and its global distribution, (now www.obs.tv ), advised the IOC, consulted the OCOG on its Structure, drafted its Sponsorship Strategy, hosted Olympic sponsors Coca Cola and Shell and led the JV that housed Olympic fans in private homes. He led the Team that launched the Olympic Truce Center and was Executive Director of the 2011 World Special Olympics.
He secured the record media revenues that transformed the Greek Football Superlegue(’09-’12). After that, he advised Alfa Bank (Russia) on the acquisition of Universal-Eurobank Ukraine 2011-13 and became the point man in Pokerstars online gaming venture in Greece 2011-20.
He received the 2018 Career Award for his leaderhip in shaping the Greek Sports Marketing industry.
He advised a number of Greek politicians, Ministers and a Prime Minister on sports.
