George Provopoulos was the Governor of the Bank of Greece from 2008 to 2014 and a member of the Board of Governors of the European Central Bank. Before his appointment as head of the Central Bank, he was a professor at the University of Athens. Early in his career, he served as Chairman and CEO of Emporiki Bank, where he oversaw the bank’s acquisition by Credit Agricole in 2006. He later served as CEO of Piraeus Bank.
