Komvos-Node bids a sorrowful farewell to George Provopoulos, who passed away today, May 28, 2024, at the age of 74. 

George Provopoulos was a founding member of Komvos-Node and served as a member of its first Board of Directors. He played a crucial role in the establishment of the organization, participating in the initiative team that founded Komvos-Node. 

During the difficult years of the Memorandums, George Provopoulos served as the Governor of the Bank of Greece from (2008 – 2014). Prior to this, he worked in the private sector as the CEO of Piraeus Bank and as an economic advisor to Alpha Bank. He had also held the position of Deputy Governor of the Bank of Greece and was the Chairman of the Council of Economic Advisors. 

Between 1997 and 2007, he taught economics at the University of Athens, after earning his Ph.D. from the University of Essex, having previously graduated from the Department of Economics at the Law School of Athens.
