Lucas Papademos is a Greek economist, banker, and member of the Academy of Athens. He served as the Prime Minister of Greece from November 11, 2011, to May 16, 2012. He was appointed to head the government resulting from a collaboration between the previous Papandreou government (PASOK), the main opposition party (ND), and another parliamentary party (LAOS).

Papademos was the Governor of the Bank of Greece from 1994 to 2002 and Vice President of the European Central Bank from 2002 to 2010. He became the Governor of the Bank of Greece following a personal decision by Andreas Papandreou, after a conflict between Ioannis Boutos and Papandreou’s close associate, Antonis Livanis. His tenure was associated with Greece’s entry into the Economic and Monetary Union (EMU) and the Eurozone.
