Teacher Training on Artificial Intelligence and AI Literacy in the Classroom
On 18 June 2026, Komvos – Networks of Global Hellenism is organizing the first teacher training session in Greece aimed at enabling educators to use the curriculum and tools of “MIT Day of AI” in the classroom, developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, under the theme “Foundational AI Literacy for Students.”
The training will be delivered by American educators from the i2 Learning Foundation, which was created by MIT RAISE — Responsible AI for Social Empowerment and Education.
The initiative is coordinated by Dr Nikolaos Mavridis, member of Komvos and coordinator of the Ai’nclusion initiative.
It is important to note that MIT Day of AI is already being implemented in more than 80 countries and has helped millions of students around the world.
Komvos’ Ai’nclusion Initiative
The session is being held as part of Ai’nclusion, Komvos’ initiative focusing on the relationship between artificial intelligence, education, inclusion, and equal access to knowledge.
The event is being held with the participation of LAVINIA Corporation / Laskaridis Shipping Co. Ltd., which is hosting the session and supporting its practical implementation, and AI Catalyst, which is contributing to the connection of the initiative with the educational community.
What Is “MIT Day of AI”?
The training will take place in person in Kifissia, with the online participation of an instructor from MIT Day of AI, a program developed at MIT RAISE, which also created the i2 Learning Foundation to provide small-scale training sessions.
MIT Day of AI consists of educational material, curriculum, assessment tools, and teacher training resources. It also includes special tools for the creation of student AI applications and aims to cultivate AI literacy among students through the training of educators who will use MIT Day of AI in their classrooms.
A Continuation of the Ai’nclusion Events
The session of 18 June is a continuation of Komvos’ Ai’nclusion events on artificial intelligence, education, and inclusion.
Following the address by Dr. Nikolaos Mavridis and the panel at Komvos’ annual conference, the initiative continued with the event at Panteion University, featuring a lecture by Dr. Katerina Bagiati of MIT on AI in education.
With this new session, Komvos is moving from public dialogue and awareness-raising to the practical training of educators.
What the Training Will Include
The two-hour training session will focus on Foundational AI Literacy for Students, with the aim of introducing participating educators to the educational material of Day of AI and exploring ways in which it can be used in the classroom.
The session is addressed to a limited number of educators, with the objective of creating a first core group of education professionals who will be able to contribute to the gradual introduction of AI literacy into the Greek school environment.
This is the first in a series of teacher training events from every part of Greece, which we aspire to develop with a positive impact on thousands of students.
Why AI Literacy Matters in Education
Artificial intelligence is already part of the daily life of students and educators.
The challenge for schools is not only to become familiar with new tools, but also to understand the possibilities, limits, and social implications of technology.
Education is called upon to cultivate critical thinking, ethical reflection, responsible use, and a meaningful understanding of AI.
Komvos’ Role in the Implementation of the Program in Greece
According to the framework of cooperation, Day of AI can support the implementation of the program in Greece through the adaptation of educational material, teacher training, support for schools, and the evaluation of outcomes.
Komvos has a coordinating role in the participation of schools and educators, as well as in contributing to the adaptation of the material to the Greek educational and cultural context.
A First Applied Step for AI in the Greek School Environment
The event of 18 June is a first applied step in this direction.
Its aim is to empower educators, connect the Greek educational community with high-quality international educational material, and contribute to a more meaningful discussion on the role of artificial intelligence in schools.
The ultimate goal is the multifaceted preparation of students and society for the age of Artificial Intelligence.
