True to its “Think-Act” mission, Komvos-Node is hosting its 2nd Annual Conference in Athens on November 29, 2024, with the central themes focusing on Shipping and ESG, Sustainability in Tourism, and the Space Industry.
The conference is organized by Professor Michael Haliassos. Komvos-Node’s goal is to take action and enhance discussions regarding Greece’s prospects and initiatives in fields such as Culture, Research, Biotechnology, Economy, utilization of the Diaspora, Shipping in relation to environmental challenges, Science, the Space Industry, Tourism, and Sustainable Development, all of which are high priorities for the country.
The conference will begin with an update on the progress of the three initiatives announced at the 1st Conference. The update will be presented by the coordinators of these initiatives:
Initiative on Biotechnology – Prof. Kostas Drosatos, founding member and General Secretary of the Board
the ENNOIA initiative for the Economy – Prof. Michael Haliassos, founding member and Vice President of the Board
Initiative on the Utilization of the Diaspora – Prof. Angelos Chaniotis, founding member and President of the Board
Subsequently, Komvos-Node’s new initiatives will also be announced, and the first steps for starting dialogue and defining actions will be established:
Shipping and ESG: ESG as a driver of development and competitiveness for Greek Shipping. The initiative is coordinated by the Treasurer of Komvos-Node’s Board and founder of Neptune Maritime Leasing, Harris Antoniou. The inaugural discussion of this initiative will include (alphabetically):
Prof. Hercules Haralambides– Professor of Maritime Economics and Logistics and founding member of Komvos-Node,
Christos Megalou – CEO of Piraeus Bank and Member of Komvos-Node’s International Advisory Board;
Eleni Polychronopoulou – President of HEMEXPO and ERMA First Group;
George Prokopiou – shipowner, founder of Dynacom, Sea Traders & Dynagas, owner of Skaramagas Shipyards, and Member of Komvos-Node’s International Advisory Board.
Space Science and Industry: In this initiative, the content coordinators are:
Dr. Stamatios Krimigis – founding member of Komvos-Node, and
Astrophysicist Athena Coustenis– founding member of Komvos-Node and member of the Board.
The inaugural discussion will be moderated by journalist Anna Grimani, founding member of Komvos-Node and member of the Board. The discussion will include (alphabetically):
Ioannis Gekas – Head of Space and Analytics at Accenture Greece;
Dr. Adrianos Golemis – the first Greek astronaut selected by ESA;
Scholar Stamatis Krimigis – Emeritus Head of the Space Exploration Department, Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory and Former Director of NASA’s Space Programs; and
Planetologist Anezina Solomonidou – Hellenic Space Center and President of the Planetary Science Division for the European Union of Geosciences, member of Komvos-Node’s Advisory Committee.
Tourism and Sustainability: The 6th action initiated by Komvos-Node focuses on sustainable development in Tourism as an immediate priority, with the participation of experts and entrepreneurs from the sector. The initiative is coordinated by journalist/social entrepreneur and founding member of Komvos-Node, Elizabeth Filippouli. The discussion will be moderated by the President of Komvos-Node’s Board, Angelos Chaniotis, Professor of Ancient History and Classical Studies at the Institute for Advanced Study of Princeton, with speakers including:
Elisabeth Filippouli – Founder/CEO of Global Thinkers Forum.
Alexandra Mitsotaki – President of the World Human Forum;
Konstantis Rokofyllos – Founder/CEO of Paleros Bay;
Eleni Skarveli – Director of EOT of UK and Ireland; and Elizabeth Filippouli – Founder/CEO Global Thinkers Forum.
