As part of the Bio3 Forum – BioInnovation Greece, the Satellite Symposium “Education in the 21st Century” took place on Friday, September 19, the fifth and final day of the Conference, also at the Technopolis of Athens, with free admission. Komvos was represented by Mr. Drosatos, founding member and Secretary General of the Board. The Minister of Education, Sofia Zacharaki, presented the priorities for the future Greek school, while Nikolas Katsanis highlighted the importance of science as an integral part of scientists’ lives.
The three panels focused on the role of the citizen-scientist and the scientist-citizen, on interdisciplinary education, and on the integration of Artificial Intelligence into everyday teaching practice.
The Symposium was held under the auspices of the ARISTEiA Institute and the partnership Komvos – Networks of Global Hellenism, with the participation of distinguished scientists, academics, and journalists, including Fanis Papathanasiou, Vasiliki Michopoulou, Polydefkis Papadopoulos, Thodoris Anagnostou, Ioannis Koutroulis, Elli Maggouta, Aristeidis Samitas, Perikles Mitkas, Konstantinos Papadias, Alexandra Mitsotaki, Spyros Agathos, and Nikos Kyrpides.

Members of Komvos also took part in various panels and sessions throughout the Conference: A. Grimani, F. Makantasi, G. Nounesis, V. Dziakhristos, J. Sifakis, N. Tavernarakis (founding members), A. Golemis, A. Mitsotaki, and A. Spatharou (corresponding members), as well as S. Artavanis-Tsakonas (member of the International Advisory Committee).
The Bio3 2025 Conference concluded its sessions offering a comprehensive and multi-dimensional framework for developments in biomedical research, biotechnology, and innovation. The program included keynote lectures, roundtable discussions, fireside chats, and parallel sessions, with the participation of leading Greek and international scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, as well as policymakers. Discussions highlighted trends, challenges, and opportunities in science and innovation, stressing the importance of interdisciplinarity, education, and entrepreneurship mentoring for the growth of a dynamic innovation ecosystem.
Highlights included the announcement by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis regarding the preparation for the creation of a Ministry of Research and Higher Education, the presentation by the Minister of Education and Religious Affairs, Sofia Zacharaki, on priorities for schools and high schools, as well as the intervention of Athens Mayor Haris Doukas on strengthening innovation in the city.
The conference brought together more than 500 participants — academics, researchers, entrepreneurs, students, and pupils — and nearly 200 speakers from around the world, including scientists, investors, and biotechnology experts. The ARISTEiA Institute supported the initiative with a bronze sponsorship. The Bio3 initiative was launched three years ago by Nikos Kyrpides, Georgios Pavlopoulos, Georgia Kokaraki, and Michalis Chatzithomas, and has since attracted distinguished collaborators such as Ioanna Michalopoulou, Dr. Lida Kourita, Victoria Kimonidi, and Greg Roumeliotis, aiming to advance biotechnology in Greece.
