The session “Shipping, Ferry Services and the Green Transition” at the 3rd Annual Komvos Conference brought together representatives from the shipbuilding industry, ferry services, academia, and government for a meaningful discussion on the future of Greek shipping within the ESG framework.
The session opened with an introductory speech by the Minister of Shipping & Island Policy, Mr. Vasilis Kikilias, who outlined the government’s priorities for shipping, ferry services, and the transition to greener technologies, setting the stage for the discussion that followed.
Next, Panos Dikaios, Stratis Apergis, Theano Perdikari, Sotirios Theofanis (Partner of Komvos), Panos Xenokostas, and Giorgos Alexandratos, with Komvos’ Partner and Treasurer Harris Antoniou as moderator, engaged in a comprehensive discussion. Key points included:
🔹 the need to renew the ferry fleet,
🔹 the role of the Greek shipbuilding industry as a strategic growth driver,
🔹 the importance of “green” ports and electrification technologies,
🔹 the financing challenges of the transition,
🔹 and ways Greece can leverage the global footprint of Hellenism in shipping.
The session also featured the presentation of two new Komvos initiatives: the Komvos Maritime Innovation Hub and the Komvos Maritime Fund, which establish an integrated framework for research, strategy, and financing for green ships, ports, and technologies.
